First annual Blackberry Ramble coming to Olive Hill June 13

OLIVE HILL, KY — A new summertime tradition is taking root in Carter County.

The first-ever Blackberry Ramble will be June 13, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 140 Railroad Street in Olive Hill.

Inspired by the deep-rooted traditions of Eastern Kentucky, the event celebrates the region’s love of blackberry picking, homemade recipes, and small-town connection.

“The Blackberry Ramble came about through the love of a small community and my home,” said Loretta Leadingham, festival organizer. “People in Eastern Kentucky still pick and enjoy blackberries and have their own recipes.”

Leadingham says the event is designed to bring people together while showcasing everything that makes the region special.

The full-day, family-friendly festival will feature a variety of entertainment, including live performances from regional favorites and special guests. 

Attendees can enjoy music from Seven Turn, classic rock/country band out of Morehead, along with appearances by nationally-known comedian and parody artist Cledus T. Judd. Additional entertainers include Terry Murphy and Kisha Royse.

In addition to live entertainment, the event will include a wide range of activities for all ages. Families can enjoy inflatables, face painting, a cotton candy station, and surprise character appearances for children.

One of the day’s highlights will be the Blackberry Pageant, taking place at 11:00 a.m., with registration beginning at 10:15 a.m. The festival will also spotlight local talent through the Blackberry Idol competition, offering participants a chance to shine.

“We want to show the world what talent we have here in Eastern Kentucky, and who knows, maybe they will find themselves on American Idol one day,” said Leadingham. “The great Tom T. Hall was born right here in Carter County Kentucky. It’s time for more talent to be revealed.”

Throughout the day, festivalgoers will have the opportunity to browse a wide selection of vendors offering handmade arts and crafts, boutique items, and Kentucky-made goods, offering everything from jams and jellies to dumplings, teas, and other creative treats.

Food vendors will also bring a unique twist by incorporating blackberries into their menus.

At its heart, the BlackBerry Ramble is about celebrating local pride and sharing it with others.

“Our hopes for this event is to showcase the talent in Eastern Kentucky and show the world what an awesome small town and community Olive Hill is,” Leadingham said. 

She added, “There is so much beauty in Carter County. With continued support this festival will grow and draw visitors from all over Kentucky and other states. This is our dream.”
