Liberty Grove Church revives Vacation Bible School after more than 20 years
VANCEBURG, Ky — For the first time in more than 20 years, Liberty Grove Church will offer Vacation Bible School (VBS), creating a new opportunity for children and families to experience faith, fun, and fellowship together.
The one-day event, themed “Loving Like Jesus – Bee Kind!”, will take place Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, located at 200 Manley Hollow Road in Vanceburg.
Designed for all ages, the VBS will offer structured classes for children ranging from infants through teens, with additional flexibility based on attendance.
While pre-registration is encouraged, families are also welcome to sign up on the day of the event.
Shanda Roberson, VBS director, says children can expect a full day of engaging, age-appropriate activities centered around faith and kindness.
“We will be learning about Jesus and the Good Samaritan,” she said. “We will be exploring how to ‘bee’ kind to others like Jesus would want us to be. We will learn how anyone can be a good Samaritan.
VBS will include age-appropriate crafts, outdoor activities such as corn hole, velcro ball, and relay races, as well as a music class where children will learn songs with motions. Each class will also explore the story of the Good Samaritan as part of the event’s faith-based lessons.
The return of VBS is especially meaningful for Roberson and the church.
“The Lord put it on my heart to bring youth back to Liberty Grove. Liberty Grove would love to build the church up with the youth,” she said. “I believe the youth are our future and are worth investing in their young minds.”
For Roberson, the event is also deeply personal.
“I grew up at Liberty Grove. I even attended VBS there as a kid,” she said. “Seeing the church lose their youth population saddens my heart. I've been VBS director at another church and have seen how impactful it can be. It means a lot to be able to fill this little white church on a hill with the laughter of kids again.”
Families interested in attending can RSVP by calling (606) 584-1922 or by using registration QR codes available on flyers throughout the surrounding communities.
