Olive Hill church invites community to experience “Journey to Easter” walk-through event

Olive Hill, KY – This Easter season, First Baptist Church of Olive Hill is offering the community a unique opportunity to step into the story of Easter in a powerful and immersive way.

On April 4, the church will host “Journey to Easter,” a walk-through experience designed to bring the final days of Jesus’ life to life through a series of moving, interactive scenes.

Guests will travel through four key moments of the Easter story: the Triumphal Entry, the Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Crucifixion and encounter live actors and narration along the way.

The idea for the event came from a desire to present the true meaning of Easter in a more impactful way.

“We did an Easter Egg hunt the first year I was here as pastor,” said Eddie Barker, pastor of First Baptist Church of Olive Hill. “While we had a great turnout for the event, we were not satisfied with the way the Gospel message was presented. The main focus of Easter is the resurrection of Jesus, so we began exploring a better way to present the Passion of Jesus to the public, and the idea for ‘Journey to Easter’ was born.”

Now in its second year, the event continues to grow as a meaningful outreach to the community.

“There is nothing traditional about the Journey, nor is it a service,” Barker said. “You simply come and walk through the scene, as there will be various narrators and actors in each room.” 

He added, “There will be refreshments at the end, along with an opportunity to ask questions or share your thoughts.”

The walk-through itself takes approximately 20 minutes, but attendees are welcome to stay longer for reflection, conversation, and fellowship.

Church leaders hope the experience leaves a lasting spiritual impact.

“We hope people leave the ‘Journey to Easter’ encouraged with the hope of salvation and a knowledge of Jesus’ grace and mercy, as well as awakened to the need of repentance and belief in Jesus as Lord,” Barker said.

Open to both church members and the general public, Barker emphasized that everyone is welcome, including those who may not regularly attend church.

”Our mission is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with our community,” he said. “Come, see, and hear the true message of Jesus.”

The event is free to attend and no pre-registration is required.

While families are encouraged to attend, parents should be aware that some scenes may be intense for younger children.

“Because of the crucifixion scene, it may not be suitable for all ages. We recommend that each parent be aware and not take small children through,” Barker said. “However, families with smaller children are encouraged to come. They can either go through as parents one at a time, or we will have folks available to watch their smaller children while they are inside the Journey.”

“Journey to Easter” will take place at the First Baptist Church Ministry Center, with the walk-through beginning at 6 P.M. The church is located at 365 E Tom T Hall Blvd, Olive Hill.
